Sound Design and Mixing based in Austin TX
The back half of the fight between Bowser and Dr. Eggman with dialogue and SFX only from the 2024 season of Death Battle! I was the sole sound designer and mixer on this episode (and any of the 2024 and beyond Death Battles). A handful of classic Mario and Sonic SFX appear (as it'd be wrong not to have Easter Eggs in a nostalgia-fest) but hopefully they surprise you in how they're incorporated into my blend of fresh Death Battle sounds I've created over the years with synthesis and recordings. The full 4 minute fight with music is here if you’re curious how these sounds stack up against an in-your-face music forward mix, and honestly I think my strategies in dynamic stem mixing to get music present and forward without killing sound design is something I hope you listen to even if you only want me as a sound designer! I’ve worked on over 80 Death Battle fights with cumulative views above 350 Million as of this writing.
Complete sound redesign of a short clip of me playing Remnant 2. I foley'd our main character's movements with my '5 year anniversary' duffle bag from Rooster Teeth (it's a chunky one). The special cooldown moves were largely enhanced with a tibetan-style singing bowl I bought just for the unique high pitched sounds. The melee is comprised of sounds I've developed over my years working for Death Battle. The ambience features a lot of stretched and reverbed dry ice chunks under various duress. The book at the end is foley'd with George R.R. Martin's Dangerous Women, I'm positive that sounds more dangerous than normal paper.
My sound design reel featuring scenes I created in for RWBY, gen:LOCK, Fatal Flash and Death Battle. Music stem has been muted for this reel.
RWBY was Rooster Teeth’s flagship IP, I designed fights, monsters, weapons and magical abilities as well as mixed the whole show for the last 4 seasons.
gen:LOCK was a MAX original made by RT featuring A-list voice actors, I designed the construction kit for our ‘holons’ (mecha) amongst many other sci-fi elements like weaponry and UI.
Fatal Flash was an indie online sprite-based brawler made in Unity. I was a one man sound team and composer for the project which unfortunately didn’t gain traction.
Death Battle! is a long running YouTube favorite pitting various characters from the whole range of media against each other. If you’ve seen an episode in the last 7 years there is a high chance I worked on it
This is intended as a re-recording mix reel taken from our RWBY Vol 9 Music and Sound Awards submission (which we were selected as a finalist). I obviously take a lot of care in the mix, using my own templated bus structure that allows me to control 300+ track sessions effortlessly with a Director as my co-pilot crafting the stories we want to tell with sound.
I also participated as the main sound designer for the scenes involving the villainous cat, in which I designed all of the cat magic from my own (not so villainous) cat's recordings processed through various guitar pedals.
